Furnace Falls Ceredigion West Wales
Sunday, February 28th
The Scala Theatre in Prestatyn is a new venue for the choir. This old cinema
in the High Street has been completely restored and converted into a concert
hall by the "Friends of the Scala". The concert is to celebrate its re-opening
and it should be a gala evening with the supporting artistes.
March 5th to 7th
Choir trip to Harrogate. Originally this was to give a concert for the Mayor
of York's Charity Fund. It was all arranged, hotel, transport etc., but
then we heard no more. Never mind, we will have a convivial weekend away
without any responsibilities.
Annual Festival Concert at the Flint
Pavilion Saturday, April 17th.
This concert is the only event we stage where all the profits go to choir
funds and without the cash from it, our accounts look rather sick. Last
year we invited the Glanaethwy Junior Choir and what an eye opener that
was; we were all astonished at the tremendous sound and sheer exuberance
of the young performers. This year the Senior Choir have accepted and they
are renowned as the top school choir in Wales. Their performances in Côr
Cymru (S4C) and "Last Choir Standing" have given them the status they deserve
and we are honoured to perform with them. Don't miss this.
St.Ethelwolds Church, Shotton, Saturday,
May 22nd
Another regular venue for the choir and once more we are happy to contribute
to their funds. Leigh Parish Church, Lancashire, Saturday, June 12th. We
have sung here before as one of our Lancashire excursions, this time it
is to help with an appeal (no pun intended) to save the church bells. The
venue is a traditional Anglican building, wonderful acoustic and a real
pleasure to perform in. We always look forward to Lancashire.
Flint Festival, Opening Concert,
Saturday, July 3rd.
This year the Flint Festival runs from 3rd to 17th July and we are pleased
to open this worthy event at the Gwynedd School. By popular demand we have
re-invited Ysgol Glanaethwy Junior Choir to appear. They were so delighted
with their reception here in 2009 and are really looking forward to this
time. Once again, don't miss this one.
Saturday, July 11th. Moyor of Flint's
Civic Sunday.
Emaus Methodist Church Each year the new Mayor elect chooses a local church
in which to hold the Civic Service and this year Emauis has been chosen..
Emaus, on Holywell Road in Flint, is the spiritual home of the choir and
where rehearsals are held twice a week. Although the church area is relatively
small, the adjacent hall, the old schoolroom, will hold nearly as many and
with the dividing screens removed will allow the choir to augment the service
with a performance. We always invite the new Mayor to be the choir's President
and sincerely hope the offer will be accepted once again so that we can
offer support in this most worthy occasion.
Monday July 26th to Thursday 29th.
Interceltic Festival, Arviles, Spain.
These Festivals are meat and drink to the choir after 5 appearances at the
Lorient event. Arviles in northern Spain, a coastal town, part of Asturias,
have invited us for 3 days to bring a bit of Wales into their lives. We
are very happy to oblige. We don't know quite what to expect, but rest assured
we won't be letting our name down or the name of Flint.
Sunday August 8th. Holy Trinity
Church, Llandudno.
The Sunday night concerts here were very popular with holiday makers until
they had to be curtailed while repairs were carried out to the church building.
They will be revived this year and the choir will be performing on two occasions.
We used to go every year and make it a wonderful social night as well as
being musically very satisfying. It will be quite nostalgic to return.
Gladstone Theatre, Port Sunlight.
Saturday 28th August.
In 2009 we appeared at this unique venue for the first time and were so
well received the management could not wait to book us again. We are very
flattered, especially when you see the quality of the artistes they have
there. The theatre is a true community effort and puts on events throughout
the year in a truly professional manner. We will try and uphold their standards.
Sunday September 5th. Holy Trinity
Church, Llandudno.
This month had been reserved for the Interceltic Festival, but now that
is in July we have space for the second visit to Holy Trinity as described
above.
Sunday October 10th. Wedding at
Llyndir Hall, Rosset.
This is the post wedding celebration rather than part of a church service.
Never having done one before we are not quite sure what to expect, but that's
show business. Let's hope we can entertain the guests before they start
the disco.
Saturday October 16th.Flint High
School, Flint Young Musician Competition,
This will be the 24th year for this prestigious event and we have decided
to make a double change. Our normal date has been March, but there is so
much going on for young musicians at this time, that we have decided on
the autumn, to see if this makes any difference to the entrants. Over the
years the Armoury Masonic Hall has been very kind to the competition, but
changes to their set up has made the evening concert quite difficult. Flint
High School has welcomed us with open arms and their drama theatre has the
intimate atmosphere ideal for young performers. It will also enable the
choir to sing during the final adjudications. Contact the Choir Secretary
for details.
Friday October 22nd. Hafan Deg,
Treuddyn,
The concert is in the school hall. We have performed here many times, not
least many years ago in their eisteddfod, probably best forgotten.
Sunday November 14th. Remembrance
Day Parade.
We are here to support the Royal British Legion at the Cenotaph on Chapel
Street and help with the hymn singing. A most moving ceremony and very well
attended.
Annual Charity Concert, December
12th.
The choir host this concert to help local charities and voluntary organisations
that would be unable to host a concert on their own. They sell the tickets
and get the proceeds for themselves. Now in its umpteenth year and as successful
as ever A great way to welcome the festive season. Weddings. From time to
time the choir are asked to assist at wedding ceremonies, both to aid in
the hymn singing and to entertain while the congregation assembles and during
the register signing. If any couple wish to avail themselves of this service,
please contact us through the Concert Secretary, Gwyn Hughes on 01352 761889
Thanks.
