Hear Us

We started in 1975 and have evolved and developed under the musical directorship of only three different conductors. Our numbers grew steadily in the first fifteen years and have stabilised between 65 and 70 members. As in most male voice choirs, the choir voices are staged with the top tenors on the conductor’s left. The second tenors come next followed by the baritones. On the conductor’s right are the second bass section that sings the low notes.

We are very proud of our strong administration and annually elect three officers plus a committee of ten. Each of these has one or more jobs to do as you can see by following the link. Our choir rules define what all the jobs do. We also look after our musical resources, especially new members, by appointing a leader in each of the four choir sections.

It costs a lot to run the choir. Amongst many items, we have to buy a hundred copies every time we want new music, uniforms are a big cost, and our music team must get paid. Since most of our concerts are for charities and are free, fund raising is very important.

We are primarily a concert choir, but we also enter competitions to keep our standards up, and we like to do some sort of tour every year. This may simply be a weekend visit to another choir in the UK or an extended trip out of the country. We like to take our wives with us.

Wales is famous for its love of song.
In our area there are several choirs and many of them are male voice choirs. Male singers are hard to find, especially as most men aren’t interested until later in life when other demands, such as sport, tail off. Our members live within a radius of about twelve miles although some stalwarts travel much further to our rehearsals on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. Typical concerts however can be up to a hundred miles away. When they are further we normally stay overnight.
