The choir has nearly 250 pieces in it’s library. About 50 of these are in the live repertoire at any one time. To allow for the many different venues and circumstances the repertoire has to be wide ranging. From churches to football grounds, - schools to O,A.P. dinners – corporate entertainment – competitions – festivals. All have to be catered for and this is how it pans out.
Must have Welsh hymn tunes such as “Llef” and “Zara” sung to “O Iesu Mawr, rho d’anian bur”. “Gwahoddiad”, “Cwm Rhondda”, “Coed Mor”, “Laudamus” and not forgetting “Rachie”. “I pob un sydd ffyddlon”. All with “Amens” to stir the heart.
Folk songs old and new. “Bugeilior Gwenith Gwyn” a well known love song, “Oes Gafr Eto” or “Counting the Goats” ever popular. So many; “Dashenka” about the gypsy life, “Bwyd Y Bugail” about the shepherds life. “Sigla fy Enaid and the modern “Ti a Dy Ddoniau”. “Hiraeth”, “Myfanwy”, “Clychau’r Gog”, the patriotic “F’yn Walia “ (My Wales” and “Yr Anthem Geltaidd”, (The Celtic Anthem). More modern songs are there as well, “We’ll Keep a Welcome”, “Cofio” (remember), “Yfory” (tomorrow) and the four part “Fantasia on Famous Welsh Airs”. Then there are English songs. “Comrades in Arms”, “Nidaros” affirming an old abbess’ faith. Two Victorian melodies “Love Could I Only Tell Thee” and “Nirvana” which tell of love and admiration. What about “My Grandfathers Clock”, “Stout hearted Men”, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, “Unchained Melody”, “Voice of the Child” and the latest addition from the Caribbean “Sloop John B”.
Audiences love good opera choruses and here are ours. “Pilgrims Chorus” from Tannhauser by Wagner. “Slaves Chorus” (Speed Your Journey) from Nabucco by Verdi. “Bandits Chorus” from Ernani by Verdi in praise of the wine. “Roman War Song” Wagner again and the “Easter Hymn” from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni.
Must not forget our religious side. Handel’s “And the Glory of the Lord” from Messiah, Schuberts “23rd Psalm”, a modern Lords Prayer by Brian Hughes “Pater Noster” sung in Latin and the glorious 16th century “Crucifixus”.
Lastly those evergreen spirituals, “Angels Watchin’ Over me”, I’se Weary of Waitin’” “Steal Away” and the very spirited “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In”. Something for everyone we think you’ll agree and if you do want the choir to come to your area, you will know what to ask for.
Samples of music will be added to this page soon.
